What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They allow the site to recognise your browser, keep you signed in across pages, and remember your preferences. Cookies are used universally across the web and are essential for any site that holds an account.
The cookies we set
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Account session, security, fraud detection | session_id, csrf_token, geo_check | Session to 30 days |
| Functional | Language and locale, layout preferences | locale, theme, layout_pref | 12 months |
| Analytics | Anonymised usage statistics | _ga, _gid, _ses | 2 years |
| Marketing | Personalised promotions, retargeting | mc_uid, fb_pixel, partner_ref | 12 months |
Consent under PECR
Essential cookies do not require consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations because they are strictly necessary for the service to function. Functional, analytics and marketing cookies require explicit consent. The first time you visit the site you will see a consent banner that allows you to accept all, reject all, or customise your choice category-by-category. Your choice is logged with a timestamp and a one-year validity, after which the banner will re-prompt.
How to change your preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in to your account.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Cookies and site data.
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services we use, including Cloudflare for security, Google Analytics for usage statistics, and selected affiliate partners for referral tracking. These third parties may transfer cookie data to their own servers under their own privacy policies. Where you have not consented to analytics or marketing cookies, only Cloudflare's essential security cookie is set.
Do Not Track
We honour the Global Privacy Control signal as a signal of refusal to non-essential cookies. We do not currently honour the older Do Not Track header on its own, as the W3C never finalised it as a standard, but the Global Privacy Control signal achieves the same outcome.
